    Ripon - Environmental Impact

A Positive Contribution to Climate Change

    Norwegian Forest

The houses at Hawksmoor Court are of a timber frame construction, leading to a saving of about 4 tonnes of carbon dioxide per house upon completion (the equivalent of driving about 14,000 miles) with further significant carbon and cost savings in the home’s day-to-day use from its increased insulation qualities.

Timber frame has the lowest CO2 cost of any commercially available building material and by its very nature is made from a renewable resource. Mature trees absorb less carbon dioxide and produce less oxygen than those at earlier stages of growth. The harvesting of older trees for construction purposes and their replacement with saplings ensures a constant cycle of CO2 absorption and oxygen production.
